Job Description

About EdCast:

Who we are:

EdCast is an education technology company whose award-winning Learning Experience Platform (LXP) is used internationally by Global 2000 companies and large government organizations to upskill their workforce, solving the discovery and curation problems for learning materials across public and enterprise-internal knowledge sources. We aggregate learning content of all kinds from many sources, make it easily findable, and recommend content appropriate to the user's current and desired skillsets.

To that end, the company maintains taxonomies across thousands of topics, particularly around learning, career advancement, and skills. EdCast handles thousands of skills and topics, and millions of content items. We use state of the art machine learning, natural language processing, information architecture, and other computational linguistics tools and processes to optimize the correlation of skills and content. We manage those tools and processes with our proprietary Learning Studio application, which can be thought of as a Taxonomy Editor.

What the role is about:

The primary responsibility of the EdCast Taxonomy Manager is the management and quality control of EdCast's skills and topics taxonomies, and their use within the EdCast technology ecosystem. This is a combination of production work (adding and curating new topics), supervision of a small team of contractors and consultants, software development (extending the tools), and diplomacy (working with customers and other EdCast teams to meet their needs.)

EdCast's taxonomies control what skills and topics are available in each customer instance of its Learning Experience Platform (LXP). Typically, a customer has two primary taxonomies: job roles and skills. The former represents the jobs relevant to the customer, and the latter includes the skills relevant to those jobs. Each instance typically has 1,000 to 5,000 entries from a global superset of about 10-20,000. Some customers also require an additional custom taxonomy of up to 200 topics unique to them.
